Frequently Asked Questions
So what exactly is quilling?
Great question!
Quilling (also known as paper filigree) is an ancient art form that dates back since the Renaissance.
It is an art form that involves using strips of paper that are hand rolled, shaped and glued to create decorative designs. There are many shapes and techniques that can be used in quilling art.
There is a range of different paper widths that can be used (I particularly like 3mm and 6mm), as well as a huge selection of coloured papers.
I've seen a quilled wall art design that you have previously created, can you make me one the same?
Yes!
I am able to re-create a quilled design that I have previously made (or a combo of designs). It won’t be exactly the same due to the characteristics of a handmade item, but it will be very similar.
Are all of your quilled wall art pieces made by you?
Yes they sure are!
Every single one of my quilled art pieces are 100% handmade by me- Katherine Wigraft.
I hand roll each strip of piece of paper, glue and coil into various shapes and sizes that eventually make up a truly unique on-of-a-kind quilled artwork.
I’ve got a particular quilled design in mind, can you do it?
These are the quilling pieces I get so excited about creating! Custom made to what you want.
Simply get in touch with me and let me know what you are after and what occasion it is for (ie. Wedding / Engagement gift, new born gift, birth announcement, birthday gift, anniversary gift, milestone gift etc).
I’d love to work with you to create your own unique quilled wall art that will have special meaning to you.
You may have a photograph, picture or a hand drawn sketch to show me- the more info you can give me the better. This way I can get more of an idea of what your vision is.
I am more than happy to organise a meeting in person (for you local folk) by appointment if preferred.
Can I choose my own colours for the quilled picture?
You sure can!
I have a huge selection of quality quilling papers in stock- anything from vibrant and bright colours to pastel and neutral shades. Just let me know what colours you are wanting.
What size frames can you finish my quilled artwork in?
The actual design may have an influence on the finished 3D glass frame size. This is so that there is enough room to capture all of the design / name / text etc. I’m happy to advise you on the perfect frame size for your quilled wall art piece.
I have a range of standard frame sizes that I use (see below), however I’m more than happy to quote on custom made 3D glass frames to suit your individual piece.
All frames are available in either a matte white or matte black finish.
Standard 3D Glass frames:
- Medium size: Outside measurements 220 x 270mm (inside design space; 125 x 125mm)
- Large size (A4): Outside measurements 445 x 3200mm (inside design space; 205 x 290mm)
- Extra Large (A3): Outside measurements 520 x 420mm (inside design space; 275 x 345mm)
Do you have any quilled wall art pictures in stock that I can come and look at (& possibly buy)?
Yes, by appointment only
I’m more than happy for you to come to my home studio to check out my unique quilled art work that I currently have on display.
Please get in touch with me to organise a time that suits both of us.
How do I place an order for a custom quilled picture?
Simply get in touch with me and let me know what you are after.
I’d love to work with you to create your own unique quilled wall art picture.
You may have a photograph, picture or a hand drawn sketch to show me- the more info you can give me the better. This way I can get more of an idea of what your vision is.
I'll get back to you confirming pricing, design info and current delivery time etc.
Do I need to pay a deposit?
Yes, as all of my pieces are custom made just for you I do require a minimum 50% deposit to be paid at order placement. This locks in your order and the cost of materials etc.
Unfortunately, I have had a few people order specific custom pieces and then not show up to collect and pay for their goods (I’m then stuck with something that no-one else wants, have wasted my time and materials).
What payment options are available?
Currently I offer the following payment options:
- Direct bank transfer to my account (bank details given to you at order placement, via an invoice from me)
- Payment plan for orders over $100 (an agreed plan that mutually suits both of us). Goods must be fully paid for before delivered / picked up.
- Credit card (details given to you at order placement, via an invoice from me)
- PayPal (details given to you at order placement, via an invoice from me)
- Afterpay – Available for items listed in my online shop. Installments by Afterpay allows you to purchase in four equal installments, due every 2 weeks. All of your payments are interest-fee and you will receive your order right away. For more info go to http://www.afterpay.com.au
What delivery options are available?
You can either pick up from me at my home studio- located in Croydon North, Victoria, Australia or I’m happy to arrange postage for you (at an additional cost).
All items that are posted within Australia will be delivered by Australia Post. I will send you the tracking details to confirm the item has been sent.
I am also happy to organise postage for overseas deliveries.
What are the postage costs?
Postage costs vary depending on the size/s of the frames and your location.
I’m happy to organise postage for anywhere in Australia and also overseas.
I can quote a postage and handling cost to you after you have let me know where the goods are to be posted to.
All goods that are posted are carefully and securely packed in bubble wrap and cardboard to ensure that they get to you in great condition.
How long will it take you to make my custom quilled wall art gift?
Each of my quilled pictures / designs can take anywhere from 2 hours to over 50 hours. This depends on the design complexity and also the size of the finished quilled artwork. (I must admit, most of the time I do end up spending more time than what I fist anticipate. It’s not finished until I’m completely happy with it!).
I will be able to advise you a specific delivery date at order placement.
When will my custom quilled wedding gift order be ready?
I will confirm with you an approximate date that I can have your job ready at order placement (this can be anywhere from 2 to 8 weeks), depending on how many orders I have on at the time. I will keep in touch with you to let you know how your job is progressing.
I will send you a picture of the finished piece and let you know as soon as it is ready.
Feel free to message me anytime to get an update on your job.
So why do you say it can take between 2 to 8 weeks for my custom quilled order to be ready?
Well there are a few factors here;
- Depending on how many quilling jobs I have on at the time.
- Depending on the complexity of your job (I may be able to slot in a simpler job in between doing a few larger jobs).
- I also have another job which can take up some of my after-hours time.
- I also have a young family, house to be kept, cooking to be done etc.
- I sometimes need a night off form everything!
Can I place an order in advance?
You sure can!
The earlier you place an order and pay a deposit the better. This will ensure that I have all of the materials in stock and enough time to spend on your job. (Especially for the October to December period, which is my busiest time).
I’ve left it to the last minute…can I place a rush order for a baby shower gift / wedding gift / birthday gift?
I get it…life gets busy.
Get in touch with me and I’ll see what I can do for you.
I may be able to re-arrange a few jobs and fit it in for you.
